Silver Thimble * Hallmarked 1897
wonderful English sewing workbox is made of wood and
covered all over with mother of pearl tiles. The top has a silver
shield cartouche, not personalized. Inside, it's
lined with the original silk and velvet and has a
collection of matching mother of pearl tools. It
handled crochet hook, stiletto, button hook and corkscrew, 2
pairs of steel scissors, 2 steel bodkins
and a sterling silver thimble.
measure 4 3/8" and 2 5/8" long and
the smaller pair isn't original to the set. They both have
tight blades, intact points and cut very well. The mother of
pearl tools are all in excellent condition with no
chips, cracks or rust. The sterling thimble has a waffled upper band
and daisy knurling. It has the English silver hallmarks for Chester
1897 and the maker's mark for Charles Horner. It's in nice condition
with no holes, dents or other damage and is about an American size 7/8
(14.8 mm diameter opening).
